By asking questions of and listening to successful Longhorn breeders, we are implementing nutrition and husbandry practices that are producing very healthy, happy animals.

Lucky 7 is in recognition of the seven longhorn 'families' and the luck 1) I feel to be involved with the breed and fellow enthusiasts and 2) that it takes to breed a truly exceptional animal.
As a breeder of a small herd, we thought it would be best to specialize in what we like most in the breed. We are breeding for solid bodied, long horned brindle or black animals that genetically are likely to throw color, pattern and size with just about any cross. Within the next year all of our cows will be aligned with our goals and we will be able to consistently offer the right kind of genetics.
We are also breeding for temperament. A 1000+ pound animal with three foot spears jutting from the sides of its head needs to be steady and gentle. Sure we’re on the receiving end of the occasional head shake or stomp, but with time and patience we are trying to hand tame even mature cows, and actively work with all the calves so that herd inspection and interaction is as easy and safe as possible.
Even with the best genetics, feed and care- Longhorn legends are few and far between. And who knows, maybe someday with lots of effort and just a little luck, one of the breed greats might just sport the L7 brand on its hip.
